I remember being collected by Mum and Dad in 1974 and I absolutely hated it as being collected from school was so bad for your street cred even at that age!
Dad sugar coated it by telling me and Debbie that we were going to see the new shop that we were going to be moving to and my eyes lit up.
"Thanks dad" I managed to blurt out. "Now, I can have a paper round and some proper pocket money!"
In his own imitable way his immediate riposte was "Not a chance you cheeky little b$%**£r, Why should I pay you to take food from our table? There won`t be any paper rounds - the punters will have to collect and while they`re in I can sell them something else!"
And that was how Arkwright was born!
